The starting point of the longest downhill track is 2179 meters above sea level, with a drop of about 900 meters and a total length of about 3 kilometers. The average slope exceeds 30°, and the maximum slope is close to 70°... The National Alpine Ski Center located in the Yanqing Division of the Beijing Winter Olympics is a One of the most difficult competition venues in the world.

Here, alpine skiing competitions with a top speed of about 140 kilometers per hour are staged passionately.

Alpine skiing is known as the "Pearl in the Crown of the Winter Olympics". While it is both exciting and ornamental, alpine skiing also has certain dangers.

If the athlete's technical movements are not in place when rushing down from the top of the mountain, a competition accident may occur.

In order to ensure the safety of athletes and carry out snow rescue in a timely manner, the Mountain Operation Support Team of the National Alpine Ski Center has established the first snow sports rescue team in China recognized by the International Snow Federation - the Alpine Rescue Team.

"This team currently has more than 40 Chinese and foreign personnel." Hui Shiqiao, media director of the National Alpine Ski Center, told reporters that the team members not only have more than 6 years of snow age, but also are proficient in medical first aid, mountain rescue and other rescue skills. It can provide emergency treatment to injured athletes as soon as possible.

"Once an athlete falls and is injured on the track, the rescue team and the ski doctor at the nearest point will arrive at the scene immediately. According to the injury judgment made by the ski doctor, the rescue team will choose the nearest technical road to transport the athlete after emergency treatment. Get off the track, and choose to be transported to a medical station, mobile ICU or directly to the hospital by air transfer according to the injury," Whisbridge said.

In 2018, the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee started the formation and training of ski doctors. Why does the National Alpine Ski Center Mountain Operation Support Team also set up an alpine rescue team?

The reporter learned that compared with the rescue team, the ski doctor's ability on snow is relatively weak, especially on the smooth and mirror-like icy snow track, high-precision rescue becomes more difficult, which requires the cooperation of the alpine rescue team to carry out the rescue. save.

In addition, athletes may fall off the track during the race. Only the alpine rescue team has the ability to perform rope rescues on steep mountain walls.

"Compared with having a professional doctor proficient in skiing skills, it is easier to train skiers in medical first aid skills." Hui Shiqiao explained that when carrying out rescue operations, the team members will be based on the doctor's preliminary clinical diagnosis after the ski doctor conducts a preliminary clinical diagnosis. Determine the appropriate emergency treatment of the injured.

Superior snow skiing ability is the primary criterion for the selection of alpine rescue teams.

The Alpine Rescue Team prioritizes recruiting skiers and students from sports academies. They have laid a solid foundation for skiing since childhood, and have good physical function and sufficient physical strength.

Since the formation of the mountain rescue team in 2018, the team members have gradually mastered other skills in the study and training.

The team members have gone to New Zealand for training and study, and have mastered the use of rescue boats, crampons, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED (cardiac defibrillator) and other rescue equipment. Conduct professional snow field rescue training and drills on the ground.

At the same time, the alpine rescue team has carried out many medical knowledge trainings in China, learned rope rescue skills from the blue sky rescue team, and conducted joint training with "120" first aid.

"We stationed in Beijing Jishuitan Hospital to carry out practical drills, allowing players to face open wounds at close range and to prevent unexpected situations such as stress reactions from players during the game." Hui Shiqiao said.

In order to be close to the actual combat and the competition time, the team members also conducted many exercises and running-in with the Winter Olympics Medical Team, CITIC Marine Helicopter Rescue Team and other organizations. The rescue command system coordination and medical helicopter casualty transfer and other projects carried out comprehensive actual combat drills, which were highly recognized and praised by the International Snow Federation.

Previously, there was no professional alpine ski rescue team in China.

Difficult conditions, unfamiliar fields... The process of building from scratch is not easy, but the determination of all members of the mountain rescue team is from beginning to end.

"Everyone came here with a dream of the Winter Olympics and wanted to contribute to the ice and snow career they love," Hui Shiqiao told reporters.
