Brother and murderer of Kim Kardashian released

Pakistan has released the killer and brother of model Qandeel Baloch, nicknamed "Kim Kardashian of Pakistan", after spending only six years in prison for the honor killing of his sister.

The British newspaper "Daily Mail" reported that the mother of the killer, Muhammad Waseem, had pardoned the latter, so that the court decided to release him and register the case under the name "honour killing."

Baloch, who was killed at the age of 26, was famous for her rebellion against the strict customs and traditions of Pakistan.

In 2016, Muhammad Waseem killed his sister Qandil Baloch and was later sentenced to life imprisonment for strangling her. He told the press at the time that he had no regrets about the killing because her behavior was intolerable.

In 2019, the killer was sentenced to life in prison, but he appealed the decision until a court in the central city of Multan on Monday overturned the conviction after eyewitnesses retracted their testimony.

His lawyer, Sardar Mahboub, said that Wassim's mother, Anwar Mai, also submitted a statement to the court simultaneously that she had pardoned him, although it was not clear whether the court considered the mother's statements in her decision, according to Al-Arabiya.

Lawyer Mahboub explained that a court in the eastern city of Multan completely acquitted the killer.

The court order has not yet been published, but the public prosecutor confirmed the acquittal.

The Qandeel Baloch murder has become a public issue in Pakistan, where women are violently treated by male relatives over allegations of dishonoring the family's reputation.

Under the recent change to Pakistani law, perpetrators are no longer able to seek pardon from the victim's family and commutation of their sentences.
