To fight against brucellosis, an animal disease transmissible to humans, the prefecture of Haute-Savoie has submitted its new health protocol for public consultation until 2030, reports Le Dauphiné Libéré.
It aims to create a healthy core of ibexes by capturing, testing, marking and then slaughtering infected animals.
Twenty shots were also authorized on unmarked and untested animals.
A protocol that struggles to convince
The objective is to be able to mark all the ibexes in the long term in order to be able to follow them and ensure the natural extinction of the disease.
Priority will be given to young females from the Bargy massif, a case of contamination having been detected at the end of 2021 in a cattle farm in the massif.
This protocol is also in line with the slaughter of 224 cows from a herd in Saint-Laurent after the detection of a positive case.
However, the protocol presented seems to have convinced neither environmentalists, who criticize the resumption of slaughter, nor breeders, who fear a lack of efficiency.
The general public has until March 7 to give their opinion.
