He had signed among the most cult comedies of the 1980s and 1990s:

Stop rowing, you're on the sand

,

Twins

Ghostbusters

and its sequel.

Director and producer Ivan Reitman died Sunday night at his home in Montecot, Calif., his family confirmed to The Associated Press.

The King of American Comedy of the 1980s and 1990s

Born on October 27, 1946 in Czechoslovakia, Ivan Reitman arrived with his family in Canada at the age of 4.

He made his first short films in the 1960s, before meeting Dan Aykroyd on television and then the National Lampoon band.

After his first productions (

Cannibal Girls, Stop rowing, you're on the sand, Les Bleus),

he had his first real success, as a producer, with the cult comedy

American College

.

A sequel to "Twins"

Then comes

Ghostbusters

, which needs no introduction: a box office success, Oscar nominee and cult pop culture franchise, whose latest film episode,

Ghostbusters - The Legacy

, has also been made. by his son Jason Reitman.

Also worth mentioning is his triplet with Arnold Schwarzenegger:

Twins

,

Kindergarten Cop

and

Junior

.

Before his death, Ivan Reitman was working on a sequel to

Twins

, where the characters of Schwarzenegger and Danny De Vito discovered a new brother, played by Tracy Morgan.

If these last films (

Evolution

,

Ma Super Ex

,

Le Pari

) have gone unnoticed, it should be remembered that he also produced successes like

Beethvoven

,

Space Jam

,

Retour à la fac

, or even the multi-nominated Oscar and Golden Globes

In the Air

of his son.
