A young man shot his relatives to kill his father, mother, and wife, and injure his sister and her husband, in a horrific family massacre that took place in Qena Governorate in Upper Egypt on Monday.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to local media, the perpetrator of the crime was a young man in his twenties who used Shabu.

Witness Adham Al-Hefnawi, who works as a farmer, told "Sky News Arabia" that the perpetrator of the crime, Muhammad Ibrahim (29 years), who shot his relatives, was undergoing drug treatment some time ago, but he returned to use again.

The eyewitness added that "when members of the perpetrator's family tried to catch him and send him to an addiction treatment clinic, he took a machine gun and shot his father, mother and wife and killed them on the spot, then shot his sister and her husband, injuring them seriously."

After committing the crime, the perpetrator fled the scene and hid in a house under construction in a remote agricultural land, and when the police arrived to arrest him, he shot the forces, and the latter responded in kind, killing him instantly, according to a security source.

The security source stated that the exchange of fire with the accused resulted in the injury of a security force officer, and the bodies were taken to the morgue and the injured to the hospital, and the Public Prosecution office was notified for investigation.
