Martinique has been experiencing a decrease in its water resources since the beginning of 2022, after a drought of several months.

The 110,000 subscribers to the services of the Société martiniquaise des eaux (SME) are not, however, in a situation of shortage for the moment, reports

La Première

.

“Today, we did not deplore a lack of water, assured the deputy director general of the SME.

The water shortages that users may experience are linked to breakages and leaks”.

Interruptions have been observed on the network, which is said to be obsolete.

And this despite the boosters ensuring the supply of the most isolated districts, installed after water cuts in the spring of 2020.

A control tower

The operator Odyssi, for its part, noted that “drinking water distribution is disrupted, even interrupted in several sectors of the urban community of central Martinique (CACEM)”.

A control tower set up to monitor the state of the distribution network should allow faster intervention in the event of a breakdown.
