Who is Anna?

The same question that Shonda Rhimes poses in the title of her new series for Netflix was the one that

Julia Garner

(New York, 1994) asked herself when she received the call in which she was offered the role of Anna Delvey.

And she is the one that a viewer outside of today could become upon learning that this blockbuster arises from a true story.

So first comes the explanation and then the answers of an actress called to world fame, to succeed in Hollywood.

At 27 years old, she already has two Emmys for

Ozark

and now she stars in one of the most unlikely stories -position with a lot of competition- that she remembers in years.

But it is true that Anna Delvey - a pseudonym for the real Anna Sorokin - arrived with her family of Russian origin in Germany at the age of 16, went to Paris at 19 to study fashion, became an intern at

Purple

magazine and moved to New York,

where he swindled the entire jet set and part of Wall Street

.

That mind is the one that Julia Garner has to reproduce now

How does someone get into that body and how do they prepare for it? The first step was really getting the accent, it was very important.

If I didn't get that accent, I wasn't going to get that 100 percent character of someone who has a gift for languages and is trying to show something they're not.

And that's Anna because she was born in Russia, she said she was German and she did everything with her accent.

But I also prepared a lot by looking at her physical appearance, the way she walked because I had a lot of help from Shonda Rhimes who got me filming just for me. When they took her to meet her in person, did she understand that she was fooling all these people?

It was very important to meet her in person because I saw things that were not in the videos.

But then I thought that we also had a camera and that kept us seeing a version of Anna that she wanted.

Although I did get valuable information from a very private person, from his spirit, and was taken aback by how kind and volatile he was.

He went from dark to light and from light to dark very quickly, in a matter of seconds.

When I left, I clicked and understood why she was able to make people believe in her.

If she were a dark cloud and not charming, she would not pass. Surely many people will even seem like a heroine scamming all the economic power. I don't think she is a heroine.

In a way, it's tragic because she did it out of frailty.

I wouldn't have done it, I don't think it was right and it wasn't right, but at the same time, I understand her. Her story also shows how dangerous ambition is and building false lives on networks. It's a bit crazy and that's what I want people to stay from this series,

that they understand that it is about fighting against an identity and living in a false narrative about yourself. Why do you think it happens? Because there is a very deep fear of rejection and failure.

That's what I realized when playing Anna, what she wants to avoid in life is failing, and behind that is the fear of being really rejected.

Julia Garner as Anna Delvey on Netflix

Could we apply it to our real life?

It is our big problem in today's society, because although we are afraid of being rejected, we expose ourselves on networks without doing so.

It is very scary because we lose our true identity.

This series also leaves a strong feminist critique of power.

Is it still necessary? Yes, I think it is necessary to do it from a non-kind and intelligent point of view like Who is Anna does.

In fact, men with money and power are not controlled, they could do what Anna Delvey did and they would not be held as accountable.

That double standard is a little crazy and it shows you how unequal the justice system still is.

So I think it is necessary to talk about this issue when it is still a problem. At 27 years old, she has two Emmy awards and now she is the protagonist of a Netflix blockbuster,

what else is coming now in the near future?

That's up to Hollywood, it's not up to me, unfortunately.

Now I can say yes or no to the things I want to do and I am very grateful, but I prefer to look at it day by day.

This is a strange world and I cherish every moment because I know what it's like to fight.

Each actor at some point has struggled and I enjoy what is happening to tell great stories.

And I also want to succeed so that other female actresses know that we can make interesting characters.

That is important because I have been inspired by many women for this.

How do you deal with the end of a series like Ozark with such success and with which you have grown?

It is very bittersweet.

Sweet because I'm happy that it's ending with an amazing review, but you never want something like this to end even if it feels like it's a good thing to happen.

Selfishly, I could be doing this series forever and I would be happy because I love doing my character.

Also the cast is like my family and to stop being with them makes me very sad.

We are all for the ending but I can't help but be grateful to have been in a series that has changed my life.
