Dubai Culture, in partnership with the Bvlgari Group, and in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority “Dubai Culture” and member of the Dubai Council, announced the winning work in the first cycle of the “Bvlgari Prize for Contemporary Art” during the ceremony. Which was hosted by the Italian pavilion at the "Expo 2020 Dubai" in a festive artistic atmosphere, and the Iranian artist "Nima Nabafi" won the award.

During the ceremony, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met with members of the award jury, where Her Highness briefed her on the progress of this version of the award and the participating works, and commended the efforts made by the members of the jury to make the current version of the award a success, praising the experiences that They enjoy it, and their long history and distinguished achievements in the arenas of creativity locally, regionally and internationally. Her Highness affirmed the authority's constant keenness to benefit from the creative energies and global expertise to support creativity and innovators in the country and enrich the creative scene in the emirate.

The honoring ceremony was attended by Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, the Consul General of Italy in Dubai, Giuseppe Venociaro, the Italian Commissioner General for Expo 2020 Dubai, Paolo Galicenti, the Executive Director of the Arts and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, and the CEO For the Bulgari Group, Jean-Christophe Babin, and Bulgari Brand and Heritage Officer, Lucia Boscaini.

A panel of three experts, including Giuseppe Moscatello, Nujoom Al-Ghanim and Patricia Millens, visited this month the exhibition, which was held to celebrate all the works participating to compete for the award during the period from the third to the eighth of February, at the Van de Gudenberg exhibition in the Dubai Financial Center. Among the 15 artworks, the committee chose three works to compete in the final list: Emirati artist Juma Al-Hajj, Dubai-based Jordanian artist Kamal Al-Zoubi, and Dubai-based Iranian-American artist Nima Nabafi;

Nabafi received the award shield, which celebrates the aesthetic and cultural dialogue between the cities of Rome and Dubai, by combining the silhouette inspired by the splendor of the designs of the entrances and facades of luxury Bvlgari stores, and the exquisite architectural decorations derived from the originality of the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood and Al Shindagha neighborhood in Dubai.

The shield was designed by the Emirati designer, Kamila Al Ulama, and produced by the Emirati “Asateer” studio, which specializes in contemporary products that celebrate the rich Emirati heritage, and materials with important cultural symbolism were used in the manufacture of the shield.

The winning work will be displayed in the Italian pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, and the artist-owner will have the opportunity to visit the city of Rome for a week-long trip to visit the world of "Bvlgari", and a visit to the Domfs Africa Museum in the main store of the house in Rome.

Last July, the Bulgari Prize for Contemporary Art opened the door for Emirati and resident artists to submit works on the subject of the award.

It is “Beauty brings people together”, by creatively expressing how people communicate aesthetically, and highlighting the dialogue that brings together cities such as Dubai and Rome through the artistic and creative heritage that inspires the two cities.
