On February 9, citizens of Yichang, Hubei Province found a finless porpoise entangled in ropes downstream of the Gezhouba No. 1 ship lock, and immediately reported it to the Yichang City Fisheries Supervision Detachment.

Every time the finless porpoise emerges to breathe, it needs to rely on its tail to provide power. If the rope is not cut in time, it may eventually lead to "drowning" of the finless porpoise.

Subsequently, Mo Hongyuan, deputy head of the Yichang Fisheries Supervision Detachment, and other 4 people rushed to the scene, and urgently contacted the maritime department for assistance on the way.

The maritime department, through the dispatch center, stopped nearby ships to make way for rescue.

After four people worked together to rescue, the finless porpoise escaped smoothly.

The finless porpoise is a national first-class protected animal. With the improvement of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River, the number of finless porpoises in the Yichang River section has increased significantly in recent years, from 3 in 2012 to more than 17.

The relevant person in charge of the Yichang fishery department said that they will conduct a comprehensive survey of the prohibited fishing area to create a safer and more comfortable living environment for the finless porpoise.
