In Velleron (Vaucluse), the mayor opposes the construction of a real estate project, the Grande Bastide.
Philippe Armengol can count on the support of the artist Fabien Marsaud, alias Grand Corps Malade, who has been living in the village for three years.
Both wrote to Emmanuel Macron and Barbara Pompili, Minister for Ecological Transition.
The project to build 200 housing units on the heights of the village had been validated by the former municipality, reports
Actu Vaucluse
.
For the mayor, this would lead to a 20% increase in inhabitants and would require many, too heavy investments.
Threatened protected species
“I refuse to be mayor of a bankrupt municipality”, assures Philippe Armengol to our colleagues.
The latter explains that he informed the prefect of "flagrant shortcomings observed in the examination of the permit file".
Work had been suspended on January 24, 2022.
In particular, the absence of a request for a “protected species” derogation, reports France Bleu Vaucluse.
The OFB (French Office for Biodiversity) had notably noted an alteration in the habitat of the ocellated lizard.
