The Disney+ streaming platform reveals its number of subscribers for the last quarter of 2021. A figure 5 million higher than the estimates produced by industry analysts, even though the figures for the third quarter of 2021 were well below expert expectations.

It's a real comeback for Disney +.

The streaming platform's subscriber numbers for the third quarter of 2021 were below company targets and industry experts' expectations.

Just released, the figures for the last quarter of 2021 turn the tide.

Disney+ announces 11.8 million new subscribers for this period.

That is 5 million more than what analysts had estimated and almost 10 million more than in the previous quarter.

These figures are also much higher than those announced by Netflix, its main competitor: for the same quarter, the "tudum" platform welcomed 8.3 million new subscribers.

An 8% jump in the stock market for Disney shares

Disney+ also managed to increase its average revenue per subscriber by 9%.

But, if the turnover from online video services has increased by 34% over one year, Disney's activity is still in deficit.

Its operating losses widened by $600 million in the last quarter.

The growth in the number of subscribers, however, caused the title of Disney to jump on the stock market by 8% on Wednesday.

In all, Disney + has nearly 130 million subscribers, compared to 222 million for Netflix.

But, the platform intends to overtake its competitor: Disney+ is now targeting between 230 and 260 million subscribers by the end of 2024.
