The practices of the Orpea group denounced in the book-investigation Les Fossoyeurs could only develop because of the “carelessness” of the State, estimates the association of directors of nursing homes and home services.

This Thursday published a series of proposals to overhaul the system of care for the elderly.

"If they are proven", the "deviations" of the Orpea group "could only develop in fertile ground, which is that of negligence on these subjects of the State", denounced during a conference release Pascal Champvert, president of the AD-PA.

Les Fossoyeurs

, journalist Victor Castanet describes a system where hygiene care, medical care and food are rationed in order to improve the profitability of Orpea establishments, at sometimes very high prices.

Accusations that the group refutes en bloc.

The State is “responsible” for such a situation of abuse of the elderly “for not having put in place a minimum ratio of personnel”, specified Mr. Champvert.

Such a case would not be possible in the early childhood sector, according to him, because such ratios are imposed in nurseries.

A reform to take care of old age

“We have been complicit in this system,” admitted the president of the association of directors, who wants a profound transformation.

“We have to get out of the system with specific regulations for vulnerable elderly people” to move towards a system “with the same rules as in classic collective housing”, described the director of AD-PA Romain Gizolme.

Allow the elderly to receive visits at a time that suits them, to have a pet or to furnish their accommodation to their liking: the AD-PA has formulated 44 proposals that it intends to submit to candidates for the 'presidential election.

In addition, a dozen professional organizations, including AD-PA, Synerpa and Adedom, asked Thursday in a forum that the candidates for the presidential election undertake to implement a reform to take into account responsible for old age, from the start of the next term of office.
