The quantities of drugs intercepted at Paris airports are rising sharply.

Customs services announced on Tuesday that they had seized 17.1 tonnes of narcotics in 2021, despite a 65% drop in passenger traffic compared to 2019.

More than 7,000 seizures were made in 2021 at the capital's airports and they "represent 89% more than the previous year" and +64% compared to 2019, i.e. before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. .

A value of 110.4 million euros

At the three airports of Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Le Bourget, the customs services of the interregional customs and indirect rights department of Paris-Airports (DIPA) carried out these seizures "on the flow of travelers and in freight". and they represent a value of 110.4 million euros.

In detail, "almost two tonnes of cocaine were captured" in 2021. This highlights "the mobilization of DIPA customs officers as part of the interministerial action plan to combat the phenomenon of "mules" from Guyana and of the ministerial plan to combat drug trafficking”.

The precious help of dogs

In addition, 1.8 tons of cannabis were intercepted for a value of more than 5 million euros (+39% compared to 2020 and +250% compared to 2019).

For heroin and khat, the volumes intercepted are also up compared to 2019, with increases of +57% and +36% respectively.

The teams of anti-narcotics dog handlers are responsible for half of the cases carried out at Orly in 2021 and they detected at Roissy more than 450 kg of narcotics and nearly 3 tonnes of khat.
