The city announced that a man in his 90s who died in August due to a debris flow that occurred in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture last July, was sick during an evacuation life and was certified as a "disaster-related death."

This is the first time that a disaster-related death has been recognized in this debris flow, and the total number of deaths has reached 27.

A man in his 90s in the Izusan district of Atami City was evacuated to a shelter opened by the city in a private hotel after a debris flow occurred in July last year, but he was ill and was taken to a hospital. He died of cerebral bleeding on the 30th of March.

According to Atami City, a review committee of doctors and lawyers was held on the 8th after a male bereaved family offered a condolence money for a disaster-related death last December.

As a result, it was recognized as a disaster-related death, saying that "it is thought that blood pressure increased due to the stress of evacuation and changes in the environment, and a causal relationship was found between disaster and death."

This is the first time that a disaster-related death has been recognized for this debris flow, and the total number of deaths due to the debris flow has reached 27.

The city will provide the bereaved family with a condolence money of 5 million yen.

Mayor Sakae Saito of Atami City said, "We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the bereaved families. We will do our utmost to support those who are requesting to live in temporary housing so that they can rebuild their lives as soon as possible." I made a comment.
