Hanging for a good twenty years in the mayor's office, a painting called

Le Plowing

has just been identified by the municipality of Les Bréviaires (Yvelines).

It is signed by Benjamin Ulmann, a 19th century French painter.

The work would be part of a set of four paintings representing the four seasons of peasant labor, reports

L'Echo Républicain.

Classified as historical monuments

The painting would have been offered to the city by the daughter of the painter.

The other three works, which were intended for the Château de Montlieu, were given as gifts to the municipality of Rambouillet (Yvelines).

Very damaged, the work should soon be restored.

Several expert reports were carried out to estimate the cost of the restoration.

This will be partly financed, up to 65%, by the Yvelines departmental council.

Since its discovery, the painting has been classified as a historical monument by the regional directorate of cultural affairs of Ile-de-France.
