Why this book?
Because Mary Magdalene is not the prostitute of the Gospels,
she is the daughter of a rich merchant, who financed, with Joseph of Arimathea, the period of sermons until the crucifixion.
Cristina Fallaràs restores in this book the image of this woman rejected by the apostles because she had a different approach to the Christic message.
Because the voice of Marie-Madeleine is the voice of an angry woman:
her murdered father, she must manage her affairs and face the hostility of the Zealots.
She is also a woman in love, in love with Jesus.
They have a carnal relationship, which earns her the jealousy of the apostles (hence the reputation of a prostitute).
It is also the voice of those who accompanied Jesus in the shadows, present at the time of his death in the absence of the apostles.
It is the courage of a free woman with harsh and scathing words about the events recounted in the Gospels.
Because it is an uncompromising vision of the Christ message
which is based not on death but on life and it condemns the sacrificial idea of the flesh to reach beyond death, a better existence.
She defends a message not of hope but of a certain fullness of the flesh, here and now.
Because we come closer to a Pasolinian Jesus than the smooth image
given by Zeffirelli, if we wish to compare.
Disturbing book because it gives a different approach from that of the Gospels but which gives all its place to those forgotten by History: women.
