In Aube, the wolf is suspected of being responsible for 17 attacks in 2021, reports
L'Est éclair
.
All occurred on the border between Aube and Yonne.
If the responsibility of the wolf still remains to be established in certain cases, ten attacks have already been the subject of compensation, 21 sheep having been killed.
The wolf extends its presence
This number of attacks in 2021 is slightly higher than the estimates which had been communicated by Philippe Goffart, a breeder from Aix-en-Othe.
The wolf also seems to have extended its geographical presence in the Aube, 17 municipalities having recently joined the circle where the risk of wolf attacks are perceived as "possible in the current year".
Henceforth, it is therefore 10% of the communes of the department which are in this circle.
The prefect of Aube has thus invited breeders to increase protection measures, while the national action plan on wolves and breeding activities continues to be put in place until 2023. There would be at least total between 400 and 800 wolves on French territory.
