Whity, a white wallaby from the Edentara animal park in Isles-les-Meldeuses (Seine-et-Marne), was found dead at the age of six months, on January 20, 2022, reports La Marne on Monday.
This brutal death, which occurred less than four months after the arrival of the animal in the park, remains unexplained.
Several hypotheses
Françoise Coulet, the park manager, has already ruled out the hypothesis of a case of lumpy jaw, a disease that attacks the teeth and gums of wallabies.
Last November, Watson, another specimen from the park, had been the victim.
But the manager assured that Whity did not have any dental problems.
According to her, his death could have been caused by neurological problems related to his albinism.
Whity may well have suffered from ataxia, a disorder of the cerebellum that causes balance problems.
Potential inbreeding could also be involved.
Other wallabies could also be introduced to Edentara in the coming weeks.
