A video that causes an uproar .. the fact that Hani Shaker relinquished the Egyptian nationality

The captain of the Egyptian Musicians, artist Hani Shaker, has sparked a state of controversy during the past hours on social media, after circulating a video clip of him completing the procedures for obtaining the citizenship of a foreign country.

A company specializing in facilitating the acquisition of nationalities for investors published a video of Hani Shaker obtaining the citizenship of Caribbean countries, but because of the controversy it was deleted at his request, according to the Lebanese newspaper, An-Nahar.

The circulating video opened the door to many social media users' questions about the extent of Hani Shaker's entitlement to continue in his position as captain of musicians, who is dual national.

Hani Shaker was quick to confirm, in the statements of the Egyptian newspaper, Youm7, "that he is Egyptian and is proud of his Egyptianness, and that applying for the citizenship of Caribbean countries does not mean giving up the Egyptian citizenship, which is something he does not dare to think about in the first place."

Shaker added, "His acquisition of foreign citizenship is for the purpose of investment and recreation in those countries, due to their beauty and special nature."

The legal advisor to the Syndicate of Musical Professions, Alaa Amer, explained in statements to Al-Nahar newspaper that the citizenship that Hani Shaker obtained is honorary only for “social prestige,” as he put it, and to be able to move freely within and to the Caribbean countries without complications.

The cost of citizenship in the Caribbean ranges between 100,000 and 150,000 US dollars.
