Cyclone Batsirai made landfall yesterday, Saturday February 5, in the district of Mamanjary, more than 530 kilometers southeast of the Malagasy capital.

The Big Island is swept by violent winds and torrential rains.

Andoniaina Ratsimamanga is secretary general of the Malagasy Red Cross.
