A virtual "garbage bin" sold for a quarter of a million dollars

An American artist recently sparked controversy when he managed to sell a picture of a trash can in the non-fungible token format (NFT) for $252,000.

"I can't remember where the picture originally came from, I think I got it from a Google search," TechExplore quoted the 38-year-old son of Los Angeles as saying in an interview with Agence France-Presse.

The image, dubbed "64 gallon toter", features a plastic trash can with computer malfunction effects.

As for the image of the artist known as "Rubnis", the "Super Rare" store of non-fungible symbols deleted the image shortly after its creation.

Robbins commented on the issue by saying, "It was a kind of angry art where I was angry about some things, and I created the image and it was removed thinking I infringed."

Robins added that this was one of three trash cans on Super Rare's website, and that he sold it to an art collector.
