Saudi Arabia .. “Exemption” allows the purchase of half of the sentence of a common right prisoner (video)
The General Directorate of Prisons in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia provided the prisoner or his family with the opportunity to purchase half of his sentence in the public right, through the “Exemption” initiative.
In the details, the Director of Project Management, Colonel Engineer Muhammad Al-Madkhali, said in a video clip broadcast by “Prisons” on social media: It is required that the prisoner not have a history to benefit from the initiative for one time only, and that he has spent half of his general sentence.
Al-Madkhali confirmed that the prisoner of the private right does not benefit from the initiative, and the financial compensation for each year is 18,000 riyals
He added: The initiative aims to manage the capacity in prisons, by reducing the number of prisoners of public right and allowing their release in exchange for a sum of money.
And he added: The initiative benefits foreigners who do not speak Arabic.
This is due to their inability to memorize the Qur’an, by which the prisoner is exempted from half of the sentence.
Al-Madkhali called on the general public, banks and businessmen to adopt such initiatives and contribute to the exemption of prisoners in return, in a way that contributes to improving correctional programs inside prisons, through those sums that will be collected through this initiative.
Regarding the cost of one prisoner on the prison budget during one year, he indicated that it ranges between 45,000 and 50,000 riyals.
Al-Madkhali stated that the financial return from implementing the initiative may reach 1.5 billion riyals per year from the prison budget
