Egypt... The imam of a mosque in Matrouh was stopped for misuse of social networking sites

The Egyptian Minister of Endowments, Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Gomaa, decided to suspend Mustafa Mahmoud Mustafa Ibrahim, an imam and preacher in a mosque in the Matrouh Awqaf Directorate, from work for a period of three months or until the end of the investigation with him, whichever comes first, for misuse of social networking sites.

The ministry said in a statement yesterday, Friday, that the decision came based on the memorandum submitted by the Matrouh Endowment Directorate and submitted by the religious sector.

This comes after social media pioneers circulated a video clip broadcast by Mustafa Mahmoud on his personal page on Facebook, from inside the mosque, last Wednesday, in which he showed that the mosque was devoid of worshipers, due to the match between Egypt and Côte d'Ivoire, as he claimed.

Sources said in statements to “Masrawy” that the imam said during the video that there are 2 cafeterias next to the mosque, and no one entered to pray.

The Ministry of Awqaf stressed that all its employees fully abide by the Code of Job Conduct and Job Duties, pointing out that it deals with the utmost decisiveness with any breach of job duty in order to preserve the prestige and sanctity of the homes of God Almighty and the image of all its employees.

The Ministry of Endowments concluded that the personality of the endowment worker, whatever his job is, is inseparable from the nature of his work, due to the specificity of the ministry’s work and its religious, national and humanitarian mission, which makes it imperative to deal with the utmost decisiveness with any violation whose perpetrator deviates from the requirements of what the nature of his work necessitates.
