Indian scientists reveal "earthquakes" that occurred on the surface of Mars

Indian scientists have discovered thousands of traces of rolling rocks on the surface of Mars.

And they have found evidence of modern geological activity on the planet, according to Tuesday, the Indian newspaper "India Today".

The newspaper said: "Scientists from the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad have discovered thousands of rolling rocky tracks on the surface of Mars. These traces, according to the scientists, indicate seismic activity that occurred not so long ago on the Red Planet."

Dr. S. said.

Vijayan, assistant professor of planetary sciences at the Ahmedabad Laboratory, who supervised the study, said that "Mars is currently seismically active. Traces of moving rocks often disappear from the face of the planet within 4-8 years, which confirms that some of them are modern." ".

In the framework of the study, the Indian scientists analyzed the images captured in the years 2006-2020 by the High-Resolution Camera for Scientific Experiments (HiRISE) of the NASA satellite.

They studied about 4,500 tracks of rolling big stones with a total length of about 900 km.

According to Russia Today, this is not the first evidence of geological activity on Mars.

The French seismometer, SEIS, mounted on the InSight rover, which landed on the red planet in 2018, had recorded about 174 Mars tremors in the first six months of observations.

All of this confirms that the planet's interior is still seismically active, although some scientists are convinced that Mars is a cold, dead planet.
