• 2019 "Generating confusion is always fun"

Carolina During

very young they achieved what so many groups try in endless careers and that never works out: a

generational anthem.

'Cayetano'

, who is four years old, has served to name a human group, those young people who listen to Taburete and who have a farm in Segovia and a great place.

And not only that, with their first album they made the kids do 'pogo' between great guitars.

Nothing could stop them... until the pandemic hit.

Now comes

'Cuatro chavales'

(Sonido Muchacho / Universal), a rare second album due to the circumstances in which it has appeared, although these have not permeated its content. "Despite always crying a little, we didn't want the crying to come because of the pandemic," ditch

Diego Ibáñez

, singer of the group. Along with

Martín Vallhonrat

(bass),

Mario del Valle

(guitar) and

Juan Pedrayes

(drums), they have pushed forward and dodged the frustration of being that, some kids, at this time.

"This move to reinvent itself touches me

," says Ibáñez.

"We already know that this album is continuous, we wanted to do what we had been doing and perfect it".

Vallhonrat continues: "We had the thorn stuck in not having recorded anything in the studio with which we felt totally identified. Because live we do sound like what we want to sound like".

'Cuatro chavales' kicks off with 'Your new favorite group', where they laugh precisely at the songs that transcend the musical dimension. "There is no time to say that a song of ours is a generational anthem," says the singer of the 'Carolinos'. "There are songs that really suck for a year and you think that's going to stay for life," continues the bassist.

"For something to remain is much more difficult now than it was 30 years ago

," completes Ibáñez. For example, cites his colleague Martín, "now it can be said that 'Años 80', by Piratas, or 'Un buen día', by Los Planetas, are generational anthems. Just like 'Zapatillas', by El Canto del Loco', or 'Princesses', from Sloth".

They do recognize that

"the term 'cayetano' exceeds the song

. There are many people who do not know that it comes from the theme of a group called Carolina Durante. Just like when we were 14 years old in Elite Light and they put 'The Empire Strikes Back' of Los Nikis to close the sessions and the children at the Chamartín station raised their arms".

Even so, they do not see themselves in the front line of anything.

Not even with a concert scheduled at the Wizink Center in Madrid -and postponed by another new wave of the coronavirus-.

"Today, what interests kids is not even remotely reflected in the number of tickets you sell.

The influence that Yung Beef or C. Tangana have is much greater than what we can have

."

It is not false modesty, nor is it self-denigration. Simply, they say, the slump of this time and that the pandemic is not over. "You cry eating shit and in a moment you get tired of complaining," confesses Diego.

"Because this is fucking shit and not a day goes by that I don't say 'what a fucking shit'.

I make an effort, but there's always a time of day when I do. what are you telling me, go cry in the weeping room, that you are living from music'".

As for the themes, in 'Cuatro chavales' there is a bit of everything: urbanites who miss the city when they go to the countryside, extremely misguided people and, above all, heartbreak in all its variants, including moments of violence and breaking things .

All that yes, presented with care.

"It seems good to me that we are demanding neatness in certain issues

," says Vallhonrat.

"In our case, when we make a song, we want to be consistent."

"It's okay to throw something up on a song," continues the bassist.

"You put it on paper and there's nothing more harmless than that. There's no better place to put things than on paper. Or a song or a movie."

But Ibáñez clarifies that "there has been a change of chip" in terms of the perception of the songs and the way of analyzing them.

And Del Valle adds a warning:

"What's not cool is that this turns into the Inquisition."
