In September 2021, Stoppa pressarna published an article with the headline "Gunilla Persson stopped at the border with Sweden" where it was stated that Gunilla Persson canceled a trip to Sweden when she would risk being arrested by the police due to a debt to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

But there is no criminal suspicion against Gunilla Persson in the case, something Expressen previously reported on.

Gunilla Persson reported to the police Stop the press for libel in September, but the Chancellor of Justice then decided not to initiate a preliminary investigation.

The motivation was that the case was not considered to be in the public interest, writes Expressen.

Therefore, she instead chooses to pursue the case further as an individual prosecution against the site's responsible publisher Daniel Nyhlén.

On Tuesday, a lawsuit for aggravated libel was submitted to Stockholm District Court.

Gunilla Persson is demanding a total of SEK 500,000 in damages.

- Gunilla Persson is a tough woman in every way.

But she feels that this has haunted her for a very long time, says Mark Safaryan.

The media ombudsman is powerless

To pursue an individual prosecution against a newspaper is unusual in Sweden.

Usually, anyone who considers themselves to have been violated or singled out by a publication can turn to the Public Media Ombudsman who is investigating the case.

But Stop the Press has chosen not to join the Swedish media ethics system.

As a result, I can not review them and reports that come to me are written off.

(...) This means that someone who feels hung up or exposed by them must go through the legal system, ie report defamation ", writes the Media Ombudsman Caspar Optiz in an email.
