Kurdish forces backed by the United States in Syria claimed to have regained control, on Wednesday January 26, of a large prison attacked by the Islamic State (IS) organization in Hassaké, in northeastern Syria, ending the largest jihadist assault in the country in three years.
Farhad Shami, spokesman for the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced the resumption of "full control" of the prison by the SDF after the surrender of all the jihadists entrenched in the detention center in Hassaké, a city under Kurdish control like several areas in northern and northeastern Syria.
