A picture spread, it was said, of a journalist's dog who died a few days ago, and he was sadly sitting at the door of her house waiting for her to return.

The newspaper said, "the mirror", that the dog belonged to the Mexican journalist, Lord Maldonado Lopez, who was shot dead in her car, on Sunday, in the Mexican border city of Tijuana.

Her beloved dog, Chateau, was photographed sitting and waiting for her return.

The photo shows Chateau the dog, sitting sadly on the doorstep in Sante Fe, as if Lopez were to come back from work like any other day.

Lord Maldonado Lopez was assassinated, after declaring that she had feared for her life for several years, and the assassination is the second targeting a media professional within a week in the northwestern Mexican city of Tijuana.

Lourdes Maldonado Lopez was shot dead while in a car, the Baja California state prosecutor confirmed in a statement.

The Public Prosecution Office stated that Lopez was working as a journalist, announcing the opening of an investigation.

The newspaper, "Zeta Tijuana", said that the sound of shooting was heard around 18:20 in the neighborhood of Tijuana.

The journalist, who was assassinated on Sunday, worked from 2019 to 2021 for a media company owned by Jaime Bonilla, the governor of Baja California, who belongs to a coalition supporting the ruling Morena party.

A few days ago, the victim had won a lawsuit against this company, which she has been pursuing in court for 9 years due to arbitrary dismissal, according to the Mexican press.

Two or three years ago, the victim asked President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador for "support, help and justice," and said, "There is fear for my life," according to a video re-posted on social media when announcing her death.

"I have been on trial with him for 6 years," she added regarding Governor Bonilla, addressing the country's president during one of his press conferences.

The president referred it to his spokesperson "to assist and support it in achieving justice and to avoid any abuse of power."

And the delegate of the non-governmental organization "Reporters Without Borders" in Mexico, Balbina Flores, announced in an interview with "Agence France Presse" that it is necessary to ascertain whether Maldonado has official protection.

Another journalist, photographer Margarito Martinez, was also assassinated last Monday in Tijuana.

Martinez was working for the daily newspaper "Zeta" along with foreign journalists to prepare a report, and the Public Prosecution announced that it would not rule out any possibility in the investigation into his murder.
