In her interview with the “Without Borders” program (26/1/2022), Chaouachi added that the talk about the failure of the demonstrations on the anniversary of the revolution is baseless, despite the attempt by what the coup authorities called to prevent access to Habib Bourguiba Street in the capital, Tunis, and that the hadith The party's pro-president reported ridiculously few numbers.

Chaouachi confirmed that the demonstrations that took place on the street showed that Tunisians are committed to democracy and against the coup carried out by Kais Saied last July 25, pointing out that this street demonstrated on January 14 its adherence to the principles and its right to demonstrate in rejection of authoritarianism.

Regarding the charges brought by the Public Prosecution Office against the demonstrators, Al-Shawashi said that the charges are against those who launched them, and that the movement in the street was carried out in accordance with the health laws and regulations imposed by the authorities, noting that the demonstrators were peaceful and did not commit any violation, as the security authorities claim.

Citizens against the coup

On the establishment of the "Citizens Against the Coup" initiative, Al-Shawashi confirmed that two months after President Saeed's decisions, everyone realized that what had happened was a coup, so the initiative was established, which presented a road map to get out of the crisis, accusing the president of working on the coup since he came to power two years ago.

She explained that the initiative calls for a return to the constitutional path, the cessation of all unilateral decisions, the necessity of returning parliament and all suspended institutions, and entering into a comprehensive dialogue that leads to early parliamentary and presidential elections that will bring the country out of its current crisis.

She stressed that Qais Saeed's projects are a confiscation of the rights and freedom of the people, and there is no confidence in the attempt of electronic consultations that the president will launch in order to come up with a comprehensive vision as he claims, describing these consultations as "stupid", because they reduce the Tunisian street to questions that might return it to zero 10 years ago.

Consultation and referendum

Al-Shawashi confirmed that the president’s continuation of the consultations that he launched excluded all political parties and forces in the country, and at the same time investigated all constitutional and legal texts, wondering about the reasons for the president’s flight to the virtual world if he owns the majority of the street as he claims.

The first deputy speaker of the suspended Tunisian Parliament explained that the results of this referendum are ready, and what is happening is only scattering dust in El-Ayoun, and that any resort to a popular referendum is a deception against the Tunisian people, as they have no right to discuss the items that will be presented.

She concluded her speech that the Tunisian elite and people are fully aware of what the president is doing and will not agree to these changes, saying, "We were counting on the voices of wise people in the Carthage Palace, but days prove that it is difficult to coexist with the president's individual decisions and his refusal to hear any other voice!"
