With 15 nominations,

Lost Illusions

is the big favorite of the next Césars. This period film, selected for the Venice festival and acclaimed by critics, had attracted 850,000 spectators in theaters, seduced by this satire of the middle of the 19th century press with contemporary echoes. The Académie des César dedicates this adaptation of Honoré de Balzac, nominated in the queen categories: Best Film and Best Director for Xavier Giannoli.

Then come two musical films with eleven and ten nominations respectively:

Annette

, Leos Carax's rock opera for which the American Adam Driver could win the Best Actor award and the Maël brothers the Best Music award, as well as the real fake biopic of Celine Dion,

Aline

, signed Valérie Lemercier.

The Césars do not shy away from box office success.

Bac Nord

, the muscular thriller about rogue Marseille cops, has seven nominations, including Best Director for Cédric Jimenez, Best Film, and Gilles Lellouche nominated for the César for Best Actor.

Finally this year, and after the scandals accusing the Académie des César of favoritism and lack of diversity, three women are nominated in the category of best director: Audrey Diwan, for

L'Événement

, Valérie Lemercier for

Aline

and Julia Ducournau for her film horror film

Titane

which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
