  • Health Ómicron defeats the Covid passport: "This measure no longer makes sense"

France is "about to crush" the wave of the

delta variant

, the most dangerous for health, and in the coming days it will reach the maximum number of infections of the omicron, Health Minister Olivier Véran said on Tuesday.

In statements to LCI television, Véran indicated that the Executive is studying "two curves", in particular that of the delta variant, "which is the one that sends people to the ucis" and that

justifies the restrictions

imposed in recent weeks.

"We are about to crush it, which is good news," said the minister, who pointed out that the impact of this variant, very harmful to the health of those infected, motivated his government to promote

teleworking and limit the capacity

in meetings both indoors and outdoors.

Together with her, Véran pointed out that the evolution of ómicron is being followed, with

milder consequences in those affected

, whose maximum number of infections has already been reached in some regions but or at the national level, something that is expected "in the coming days."

The head of Health pointed out that, when taking restrictive measures or relaxing them, they are more aware of the incidence in hospitals than the number of infected, which in recent weeks

has been around 400,000 daily

.

Véran also referred to the BA2 subvariant, detected in Denmark, of which he said that

there are about 60 cases located in France

and that, according to the first elements, it is likely to contaminate patients who have already passed the omicron.

"It is

as contagious as omicron

but no more dangerous," he added.

In this sense, the president of the Scientific Committee that advises the Government, Jean-François Delfraissy, indicated on France Info radio that the BA.2 variant

"seems to be taking power" over its "older cousin" omicron

.

He assured that

in India "it is already the majority"

and considered that it is "more contagious" although they are analyzing its dangerousness.

Delfraissy indicated that

hospital pressure will remain at a high level

until mid-March, when it is expected to gradually reduce at the same time as infections.
