Disney, which is producing a game adaptation of the classic cartoon Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, commented on the claims of actor Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, The Swindler).

Earlier, the artist said that this story is old-fashioned.

He called the studio itself not progressive enough.

“Seriously, I don’t want to offend anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they took a Latin American actress as Snow White with great pride – but you are still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Stop and think about what you are doing.

I think this is kind of nonsense.

You're kind of progressive, but you're still telling that damn backward story about seven dwarfs living together in the same cave?

What the hell are you doing?"

— quotes Dinklage The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor, who avoided the stereotypical images often portrayed on the screen by undersized actors, suggested that his efforts did not lead to the expected results.

“Have I not done anything with my statements to make progress on this issue?

I guess I didn't speak loud enough," Peter Dinklage concluded.

In response, Disney representatives said that the new project is working on an "alternative way" to portray undersized characters.

"To avoid reinforcing the stereotypes associated with the original animated film, we have taken a different approach with these seven characters and are consulting with members of the dwarfism community," the studio said in a statement.

As The Hollywood Reporter points out, the studio planned to "rethink the dwarfs" in the early stages of the film.

This is also not the first time that Disney has collaborated with consultants "on issues of national and cultural specifics": such specialists, for example, participated in the production of Aladdin and Mulan tapes.

A game adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was announced back in October 2016. Then it became known that Mark E. Platt, who worked on such projects as La La Land, Drive and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, would be producing. Later, he also took part in the production of other Disney adaptations - "Aladdin" and "Cruella". Mark Webb joined the team as director. His filmography includes The Amazing Spider-Man, 500 Days of Summer and The Gifted.

In 2021, the performers of key roles were announced.

Snow White will be played by an American actress of Polish-Colombian origin Rachel Zegler, who made her debut with the title role in Steven Spielberg's musical West Side Story and was awarded the Golden Globe Award for this work.

Gal Gadot, star of the Wonder Woman films, will appear on screen as the Evil Queen.

Andrew Burnup will also appear in the tape.

He will play the central male character, invented specifically for this film.

The news of Rachel Zegler being cast in the lead role was met with mixed reactions by social media users.

Bloggers noted that, according to the fairy tale, Snow White got her name because of the color of her skin.

The choice of a dark-skinned actress, in their opinion, contradicts the original source and needs to be justified.

Others praised Disney's commitment to "representation" but said that bringing in a Latina actress wasn't enough.

According to the authors of the messages, the studio should come up with new "non-white" characters, and not change the old ones.

The premiere of the animated film adaptation of the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm "Snow White" took place in 1937.

Thanks to the cartoon, Walt Disney has been recognized as one of the most innovative and creative filmmakers in the world.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, along with Pinocchio, is considered Disney's greatest film achievement.

Both before and after this project, the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm was repeatedly filmed.

Among the first such works is the 1933 animated film, filmed as part of the Betty Boop series.

Especially many adaptations have appeared since the early 1990s.

Among them were both projects close to the original source, and tapes with an original plot.

The main role in the game versions of the story was played by Monica Keena, Kristin Kruk, Lily Collins, Kristen Stewart and other actresses.
