In order to encourage vaccination for children aged 5 to 11, which has been open since the end of December, the government is reversing one of its decisions.

The Ministry of Health announced that "now the authorization of only one of the two parents is enough" to have his child vaccinated.

At first, the agreement of only one parent was sufficient.

Then, on January 6, the ministry indicated that the written agreement of both parents became necessary, in accordance with a request from the Council of State.

This requirement had aroused the regret of some experts, considering it unnecessary and counterproductive.

This was the case of Alain Fischer, head of the Vaccine Strategy Orientation Council, one of the bodies responsible for guiding government action in this area.

"It's a bit unfortunate, it's an obstacle that somewhat dramatizes this notion of vaccination," he said.

Pharmacists and nurses authorized to vaccinate children

In this age group, vaccination remains very much in the minority: barely more than 200,000 children under the age of eleven have been vaccinated out of more than five million of them in France.

The latter can only be vaccinated with one type of vaccine: a less dosed version of the one developed by Pfizer/BioNTech.

The government will also authorize pharmacists and nurses to vaccinate children, which was previously reserved only for doctors.

“Pharmacies have the possibility of ordering” since Monday January 24 a limited number of Pfizer vaccines for children, announced the Union of Unions of Community Pharmacists (USPO), information confirmed on Tuesday by the ministry.
