Washington and London are trying to convince the whole world that Russia will invade Ukraine today or tomorrow.

At the same time, they themselves do not believe in the invasion, and the disinformation they spread is a kind of investment in future interests.

military hysteria. This is what the American media and officials in the Ukrainian direction are actively doing now. They all pretend that the Russian-Ukrainian war is not only inevitable, but is about to begin. “Can the West stop Russia from invading Ukraine,” reads the headline of an article in The New York Times. “Ukrainians have come to terms with the fact that they are on the verge of war with Russia – and are ready for it,” The Wall Street Journal intensifies the heat. As for the government, the US authorities (and with them the leadership of Australia and Great Britain) announced the evacuation of the families of diplomats, and also recommended that their citizens leave Ukraine. A number of other countries allowed the families of diplomats to fly out of Ukraine at public expense.

Biden also held emergency 80-minute video talks with European leaders, in which he says he reaches full agreement with his EU counterparts on the subject of harsh economic punishment of Russia for a possible invasion.

Meanwhile, none of the American officials or journalists has ever given arguments on the subject of why Vladimir Putin is now invading Ukraine.

Due to the fact that Vladimir Vladimirovich burned with great respect for Vladimir Alexandrovich and decided to save his rating - to consolidate the elites around the Ukrainian president, help him write off all the economic problems that Ukraine will face in 2022 (from increasing prices for a communal apartment to having to pay external debts), to war?

Due to the fact that Vladimir Vladimirovich burned with great love for the “Maidan” project and wanted to help Ukrainian radicals argue all their tales about “imminent Russian aggression”?

Or because Vladimir Putin suddenly decided to abandon attempts to normalize relations with the West and wanted to occupy some country?

And if Russia is already accustomed to this strangeness, then another is new to it.

The fact is that the alarmist behavior of the United States and Great Britain did not find support in the European Union.

European officials, always obedient to Washington, suddenly balked and not only refused to participate in this hysteria, but began to refute it.

“We are not going to do something like this (the return of the families of diplomats. -

G. M.

), because we see no special reasons for this,” said Josep Borrell, head of European diplomacy.

“There is no need to dramatize the situation while the negotiation process is going on.”

How to explain such behavior and such a split?

One of the explanations may be an attempt to exploit the Ukrainian crisis in their own interests, far from Russian-Ukrainian contradictions.

So, NATO announced the strengthening of the grouping on the eastern flank of the alliance - the United States intends to send an additional 8.5 thousand fighters there.

It would seem - why?

After all, even if Russia suddenly decides to attack Ukraine for some reason, it certainly will not cross the Russian-Polish border.

According to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, the United States wants to "remove the fears of the countries located on the eastern flank of Europe."

“This is a clear signal of how seriously we take our responsibilities under the Fifth Clause of the NATO Charter,” he said.

Translated from diplomatic into Russian, the United States tritely uses the fears of Eastern European countries (both historical and those that were pumped up by Russophobic propaganda in the media) to strengthen its military-political positions in Europe. To demonstrate that Washington, and only Washington, can protect the security and sovereignty of European states. The European Union, of course, cannot and does not want to support such a game - it dreams of its own subjectivity.

It would seem that here Europe is in a winning position. After the end of the “military alarm”, Josep Borrell will be praised for his balanced approach, and the US and Britain will be accused of escalating the situation. However, the flexibility of American propaganda should not be underestimated. When it turns out that Russia had no intention of attacking Ukraine, Washington and London will say that keeping the peace is entirely their merit. That they, by their decisive measures, demonstrated to Vladimir Putin all the “hellish consequences” of the invasion, after which the master of the Kremlin surrendered, while Europe demonstrated a “hataskrai” position and its own unreliability.

Another explanation for American actions lies in the negotiating strategy of the United States. On the eve of a new round of dialogue with Moscow (perhaps even at the level of heads of state), Washington is trying to show its muscles and demonstrate its ability to harm Russian interests. And I must say, the demonstration was a success. The expanded hysteria itself has already damaged the Russian economy - the ruble is getting cheaper, and the Moscow Exchange indices are breaking the bottom (which has already hit a huge number of Russians who entered the stock market in 2021 with their savings). And it is the Americans who have not yet switched to sanctions!

Europe does not participate in this hysteria, because it wants to play on the contrast.

The Europeans are now on the sidelines of the negotiation process and want to prove their subjectivity to Moscow through responsible behavior and achieve Putin's consent to the Russian-European negotiation process (which Olaf Scholz and Emmanuel Macron are actively trying to start).

Thus, the current American hysteria Moscow just needs to survive, while maintaining maximum calm.

“As long as the Russian government sticks to its current measured approach, which is more reactionary than provocative, there is still a chance to avoid escalation,” said Alternative for Germany MEP Gunnar Beck.

And, of course, the Kremlin can try to extract its own benefits from this unpleasant situation.

And they are.

The fact is that by their actions in the Ukrainian direction, Washington and London (willingly or unwittingly is another question) send signals to Kiev that they do not intend to defend it.

American troops are sent not to Ukraine, but to Poland - to protect exclusively the borders of NATO member countries.

America is withdrawing diplomats and its citizens, and with them the most serious pretext for bringing American paratroopers into Kiev (where they can protect not only US citizens, but also the leadership of Ukraine) disappears.

All these signals should convince Zelensky and his comrades of the danger of arranging any anti-Russian provocations in order to arrange the entry of Russian troops into the Donbass (formally the territory of Ukraine).

It is not surprising that Kiev opposed the withdrawal of potential, from its point of view, hostages - primarily from among US citizens.

“Respecting the right of foreign states to ensure the security of their diplomatic missions, we consider such a step by the American side to be premature and a manifestation of excessive precaution,” said Oleg Nikolenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

Only the State Department and the Foreign Office somehow forgot to consult Ukrainian diplomats.

In the game deployed by Washington and London, Ukraine is just an object.

A pawn on the interest board that can be sacrificed to gain a strategic advantage in the game.
