Emerich Roth was born in Czechoslovakia in 1924 and was a prisoner of war in five concentration camps during World War II.

He came to Sweden in the 50s and was one of those who later took the initiative for the Association of Holocaust Survivors with the aim of spreading knowledge about the Holocaust, racism and hatred in Swedish schools, among others.

In 2017, he was awarded the Olof Palme Prize together with Hédi Fried, who also survived the Holocaust, for their "tireless efforts as defenders of the equal value of all human beings".

- He never gave up.

When he believed in something, he believed in it.

And it is clear when you think about all the years he has been in schools and lectured and articles he has written that he has always emphasized the school's role, how important it is, says Emerich Roth's widow Kerstin Roth to DN.
