Hello?

Today, I would like to start by sharing the good news of our team (SBS D-Forum Team).

Director Lim Se-jong, who has been in charge of filming and editing content such as documentaries and interviews in our team, has been selected as the winner of the video contest held by a world-class action camera company three times.

In particular, this time, 28,000 videos were submitted from 131 countries around the world, and 62 of them were selected through screening.

One of the two selected domestic directors is our director, Sejong Lim, and Im is the only Korean director to have won the award three times!!!

(Again, I am amazed at what kind of people we are working with ^^) The prize money for this contest is also huge, but the name of the contest was the Million Dollar Challenge.

One million dollars is shared by 62 people...

Ugh…

I'll have to ask Director Lim to buy me some rice ^^

At this time today, what am I proud of in my family? 'My teammates are so cool.' There are things I want to brag about, but these days, in a situation where everyone is interested in filming, the master of action shooting is here, so I thought it would be good for us to learn a few things, so I decided to introduce director Im Se-jong.

Those who say, 'I shoot some video', empathize with a comfortable mind, and those who say 'I don't seem to have any young talent', I hope it will be a time to gather some shooting know-how. What is the daily life of the Million Dollar Challenge champion through the viewfinder?

Why did you decline the interview like this when you said you were going to have a haircut like this? ^-^

(Director Lim's hairstyle, which he said he would never do an interview with, was neat as if he had just come out of a hairdressing salon)

. More importantly, I watch my face all day and think about editing the video. Ugh… . And, rather than handling equipment and using various functions, video shooting is about what the person sees and thinks, so it was hard to know what to say. Still, the thought of meeting people with the same hobbies and interests gave me courage. *Going to watch 'D-Turb Director Im Se-jong's version' released on the SDF YouTube channel

. I think the approach of sharing good video references with each other would be good. Like me, no matter how many times you shoot, you can get tips if your photos or videos are clumsy. What's in the video for the winner of the World Video Contest?

First of all, when I was young, my father was working at a video company, and I was naturally exposed to video. I don't know if it's right to compare him to Nick Woodman [1] (laughs), but I've been fond of extreme sports since I was little, so I naturally like to shoot sports. I practice a difficult skill hundreds of times before I succeed. So, there is a moment of bliss of success, and there is also a sense of pleasure when you capture that moment on video. So mainly I like to shoot dynamic moments.

So, is this award-winning work also an extreme sport?

I don't know if you've heard of vertical dance.

It's a performance in which dancers dance while moving vertically along the outer wall of a large building.

About two months ago, I shot this video, and I got an award.

It looks dangerous just by looking at it, how did you come to be filmed?

It was a performance performed on the 20th-floor high exterior wall of a hotel in Busan.

A horse is 'dance', hanging from a wire and moving by stepping on a wall, so it's nothing short of acrobatics.

I happened to see a vertical dance video about 3 years ago and thought that I would like to film it someday, but it was dizzying to see it in reality.

The more you shoot, the more important it is to prepare in advance.

I went down the day before, grasped the structure of the 20th floor of the hotel where I was performing, and decided on a location such as the location of a room suitable for filming.

In fact, extreme sports can be dangerous, so I think the people who cooperate with the filming will be very nervous.

It's been over a year already. In 2020, we filmed a video of MTB athletes running on the bobsled track at the Olympic Sliding Center. I attached a spinner mount to the helmet (equipment that shoots 360 degrees by attaching it to the helmet) to film the direction the players were looking in, and we launched a drone together to follow the players and shoot together. Even at this time, it was truly terrifying to see. However, as soon as MTB players saw the bobsled track, they cheered, saying, “It must be fun.” It seems that there is an instinct of people who enjoy extreme sports. So we had a lot of fun filming it, and this video also won a prize in the Global Video Contest (GoPro Million Dollar Challenge). haha (proud)

It's not a place to promote a specific brand, but I think a lot of people are interested in the winning entries. A video that looked like a home video of a child at home caught my attention.

The staff in charge select them through self-examination, but I don't think that criterion is the quality of work. It means that anyone can try it, and if there is such an opportunity, even if it is not from this brand, I would like to try it. Filming a video itself records moments that can be overlooked.

What do you usually shoot?

It's burdensome if you plan too much, so I think I'll just record the surroundings. After switching to a digital camera, I take a lot of pictures, but it seems difficult to cherish one picture. I take dozens of shots in a row to have life shots (the best photos in my life), but most of them are erased and I don't even look for them. And even that one good piece of paper could have been made (if you think about it). Like a model posing. However, a video is like a record that vividly captures the mood, sound, and situation of that day.

When I look back, I take dozens of photos until they come out pretty, and after I fill up my phone, I sweat a lot to organize the photos. The video contains the situation as it is, and it made me laugh out loud after watching it.

The part that I personally regret is that I didn't film many father-in-law.

Not long after I got married, my father-in-law passed away.

One day, I suddenly wanted to hear the voice so much that my wife and I looked through the photo albums on the phone.

However, there are a lot of pictures, but few videos.

Oh, there was only one, and it was taken by accidently pressing the wrong button to shoot.

It was a video that was about one second long with a voice like ‘Ah, there you are’.

Now I want to shoot a lot, but I can't turn back time.

So, from then on, I have captured a lot of everyday moments in video.

Every day is the same day, but every day can be a new day.

Do you have any memorable videos?

My father told us to come and see the lucky tree flowers in our house about 3 years ago.

I was busy at the time, but I wondered where I had time to see flowers.

I later found out that it is very rare to see a fortune tree flower bloom.

Recently, I got a call from my father again.

It is said that the tree of fortune has bloomed again.

So, I took pictures of the flowers from the bud to the moment they bloomed and sent them to my father.

You really liked it.

Did you know that adults exchange a lot of flowers through social media or mobile messengers?

He sent the video to his father's friends and family.

It's not difficult, but I really don't think I've been able to take it.

By the way, in emergency breaking news, reporters often film the scene with their cell phone and broadcast it on the air.

In addition to the reporting video.

In fact, it has improved to the point where you can even shoot movies on your phone.

Yes.

Many people already use the slow-motion or time-lapse features of their mobile phones.

The lucky tree flowers were also filmed using the time-lapse function of my cell phone, and I did not have any specialized equipment.

In fact, what and how to shoot is more important than how to properly handle video equipment.

It's too principled and abstract, but that's the point.

I'll leave it up to you and your readers.

(laugh)

Could you please share some of the videos that the director filmed for you to try?

If you are in love right now, how about this video?

It's good for friends, lovers or family.

We filmed a scene in slow motion of walking together or holding hands and running.

You can make your own movie by simply adding background music.

A lot of people asked where this video was filmed.

'Isn't it a foreign country?', 'Did you cast the subway?' etc.

This is the front row of the Shinbundang Line.

This video was spontaneously filmed while I was riding the bus home.

I only used the slow motion of the smartphone.

Is it the feeling of pressing the stop button in your busy daily life without even having time to breathe?

Last word to subscribers of SBS D Forum

I remember a person I met while filming a youth documentary produced by our team last year.

He grew up in a multicultural family, and when I asked him what he was most worried about, he said 'house price'.

Of course, I thought it was our society's prejudice against multicultural families, but the house price.

I realized that my thoughts were also biased.

The process of creating SBS D Forum seems to be a continuation of this realization.

Please pay a lot of attention as we will continue to investigate and research what we will be talking about this year.

Happy New Year is the most important thing, and don't forget to record precious moments with your loved ones.

thank you.

'Next year' A video that will only be fun

for our team During this interview, our team also filmed our daily lives.

We spent a week laughing and joking while watching each other's videos.

Thanks to Director Lim's interview, our team recorded 'a day without much to see' with 'fun'.

Maybe next year, watching this video will be fun once more.

[1] CEO Nick Woodman, founder of GoPro, a global action camera company, had a hobby of surfing and wanted to take better pictures of himself surfing, so he came up with the idea of a 'camera that can best record surfing'. That was the beginning of the current GoPro.

Nick Woodman, a geek in his twenties, who filmed with the camera wrapped around his body with tape, has now become the CEO of a global action camera brand nearly 20 years later.
