Faced with the garbage strike in Marseille, which resumed last Tuesday, the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture took the decision on Friday to requisition the “necessary agents” for the proper functioning of the waste collection service.

The decree takes effect from this Friday until Monday.

According to the prefecture, 1,500 tonnes of waste are currently present on public roads.

"Each strike day, 800 to 1000 tonnes of additional waste are left on the public highway," she wrote in a statement.
