Snow covers the hottest desert in the world in an amazing sight.. Video

Snow fell in the Sahara Desert, northwest of Algeria, with temperatures dropping below zero.

For children from neighboring cities like Michalis, it was such a pleasant surprise that they would forget the scorching heat that is highest in the hottest desert in the world.

The ice crystals formed amazing patterns in the desert sand.

Temperatures in the city, which is surrounded by the Atlas Mountains, have dropped below minus two degrees for the last three nights, but it's only a few degrees cooler than average for this time of year, BBC Weather's Nicky Berry says.

The current snows did not come as an unexpected surprise, as snow fell on the region in 2021, 2018, and 2017.

But the snow on the red sand dunes in December 2016 came as a shock.

Ain Sefra residents said it was the first time they had seen snow since 1979, indicating that the phenomenon is now more common.
