The immigration figures for the year 2021 in France have fallen.

While Paris and London are tormented over the migration file, which came to light with the sinking of 27 migrants in the Channel last November, the Ministry of the Interior indicated that over the past year, 52,000 migrants had attempted the crossing to Great Britain.

He specifies that 28,000 of them managed to cross over to the English side.

Another figure, that of 104,000, which corresponds to the first asylum applications registered in France in 2021. An increase of 28.3% compared to last year which is partly explained by the evacuation operations of thousands of Afghan nationals from Kabul, after the Taliban took power in mid-August.

Afghanistan thus consolidates its place as the main country of origin of asylum seekers in France, with 16,126 applications filed (+62%), far ahead of Côte d'Ivoire (6,268), Bangladesh and Guinea.

The level remains however far below those before the health crisis, according to provisional immigration statistics published Thursday by the Ministry of the Interior.

10,091 deportations and increase in "forced removals"

In addition, the provisional data show a very slight recovery in the “deportations” of foreigners in an irregular situation, a file on which the government is struggling to accelerate since the pandemic.

With 10,091 deportations strictly speaking, “forced removals” increased by 10.8%.

"The fight against irregular immigration continues, in a context that is still very constrained due to the difficulties encountered in organizing travel during the health crisis: reduced consular activity, difficulty in obtaining consular passes, drop in air traffic , refusal to submit to the tests”, explained the general direction of foreigners in France (DGEF) of the ministry.
