She grew up between Angola, Portugal and France and, even today, her music is nourished by all these influences.

Coming from an extremely modest background, singer Lucia de Carvalho has released a new album,

Pwanga

, a term which means “light” in the Chokwe language of Angola.

The least we can say is that this title is well chosen.

Lucia de Carvalho will be performing in Paris on February 11 as part of the

Au Fil des voix

Festival .
