On January 17, the world's first wild desert cat was rescued and released after amputation, accumulating valuable experience for the rescue and release of wild cats.

Desert cat is China's first-class national key protected wild animal, and it is also the only unique cat in China. It is only distributed in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and surrounding provinces.

On October 10, 2021, the Forest Police Brigade of Menyuan County Public Security Bureau found an injured desert cat in need of rescue near Laohugou, Menyuan County, and immediately contacted the Qinghai Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Center.

After examination, the injured desert cat female, half-year-old sub-adult, weighs 2.4 kg, and the blood routine blood biochemical values are normal.

The right forelimb was injured. DR checked the right forelimb phalangeal necrosis. After debridement and disinfection, the phalangeal necrosis was excised, and the trauma was sutured.

Because she is female and lacks a finger, she was named "Huang Rong" (the disciple of the nine-fingered god beggar Hong Qigong).

After the operation, "Huang Rong" ate well. One week later, the wound healed well, and there was no abnormal pain when walking on the injured right forelimb.

In mid-January 2022, "Huang Rong" weighed more than 3.5 kilograms. After inspection, the data were all normal, and it was ready to be released into the wild.

At 3:00 pm on January 17, "Huang Rong" was successfully released to the Laohugou area of Qilian Mountain National Park in Menyuan County.

The release site is 3,260 meters above sea level, on a sunny hillside, with rivers and snow nearby, and fresh traces of plateau zokor and pika activities, meeting the survival needs of desert cats.

After the release box was opened, "Huang Rong" ran away quickly and ran into the thickets on the hillside.
