The latest
ómicron data
has not made it easy at all, but the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur) returns today to its
usual winter calendar
(in 2021 it took place in spring) under strict anti-covid security measures. Until next Sunday, professionals (from Wednesday to Friday) and the general public (at the weekend) will tour the eight pavilions available (from 3 to 10) of the Ifema fairgrounds in search of the
economic reactivation
of the sector, the first, and of the perfect vacation, seconds.
Not in vain, the motto chosen for this 42nd edition of the fair reflects optimism and desire for movement:
We embrace the world.
We are tourism
.
This is how
Zurab Pololikashvili
, the new Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), summed it up: "Everyone wants to travel and tourism is going to show that together we can."
José Vicente de los Mozos, president of the Executive Committee of Ifema, speaks along the same lines: "We must send a message of confidence. We have already shown that it
is compatible to travel while we overcome the pandemic
and that is what we have to continue doing."
To support, Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain will inaugurate the fair this Wednesday as they have done in other years.
FEWER PARTICIPANTS
The figures of the January 2020 edition,
the last pre-pandemic appointment,
are far from the current ones. If 165,000 professionals and 110,000 visitors attended then, this time no more than
60,000 and 30,000 respectively
are expected , which means a number of participants almost three times less. This edition, on the other hand, does exceed those of May 2021, when 42,000 professionals and more than 20,000 visitors from the general public visited Ifema. To them should be added 40,000
digital participants.
In this sense, the fact that the fair is being held is already a source of satisfaction for the
Minister of Tourism
, Reyes Maroto, stating that "Spain has proven to be an example of a safe destination".
In this 42nd edition there will be 600 main exhibitors.
SECURITY MEASURES
Fitur's security measures include a ventilation system that eliminates the recirculation of air inside the eight available pavilions, in addition to the organization of the movement of people.
Regarding entry, the EU
Covid Digital Certificate
must be presented or, failing that, the
Spain Travel Health QR
, a negative antigen test or a PCR carried out within 24 hours prior to the first access to Fitur.
In addition, all attendees must wear
an FFP2 mask
inside the pavilions.
600 exhibitors and 107 countries
This year Fitur will have
600 main exhibitors,
which will bring together
6,933 participants.
International assistance is marked by the 107 countries, between destinations and companies, of which 70 attend with official representation, while 11 will do so virtually.
Around the world throughout the fair's
56,700 square meters
is guaranteed.
From Chile to Jordan, Colombia
, Argentina, Seychelles, Uganda, Morocco, Georgia, Panama, Peru, Israel, Mexico or Qatar, which is attending the event for the first time.
Still,
the national presence
wins by a landslide, with the stands of the 17 autonomous communities, as well as provinces, wholesalers, travel agencies, Spanish official bodies... Spain occupies pavilions 5, 7 and 9.
60,000 participants and 30,000 visitors are expected this year.
YOUR OWN AVATAR IN REAL TIME
One of the new
technological experiences
of the fair is in the form of an avatar.
Each visitor can create their own by scanning system in real time.
Thus, whoever wants to have their personalized and hyper-realistic digital twin
in 3D for the first time.
The creator of the idea is
Helixa Experience Center,
a collaborative knowledge and innovation platform whose objective is to promote the digitization of companies while serving as a
space for debate
and
networking.
In fact, its operation starts at Fitur, but it will remain at the Ifema Madrid Lab innovation
hub
for the next six months.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, THE CARIBBEAN PARTNER
Under the slogan
Dominican Republic has it all
, the Caribbean country will be at Fitur as a partner, a statement "with
a very special meaning
" in this time of pandemic, as its Minister of Tourism, David Collado Morales, pointed out during the presentation . "Being here means that we see the glass as half full, not half empty." Thanks to that optimism and his good management of the Covid-19 crisis, the last quarter of last year was
the best in the history of tourism
in the Dominican Republic. "We have decided to bet on hope and not on fear." To continue maintaining that level, the country will present the arguments that complete its motto that it has it all. A summary:
good weather
, hospitality of its people, connectivity with more than 1,400 airports in 170 countries, a powerful hotel plant...
The beaches of Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic.
SPECIAL SECTIONS ON WOMEN OR LANGUAGES
In addition, the 42nd edition of the Madrid International Tourism Fair will feature, like other years, different monographic sections. Among them, those of
Fitur Mice
stand out , oriented towards incentive companies, business tourism and event and congress organizers , and
Screen,
a space organized together with the Spain Film Commission aimed at connecting the tourism and film industries. There will also be sections dedicated to the
LGBT+
sector (its motto this year is
For inclusive tourism
),
Woman
(its objective is to promote the role of women in the industry) and
Lingua
(focused on language tourism, a segment with great potential of growth).
Meetings will once again be essential at Fitur.
FIRST EDITION OF FITUR CRUISES
Aware of all this potential, the Madrid International Tourism Fair is launching a
new monographic section
, Fitur Cruises. This first edition focused on the world of cruises will be held only during the day next Saturday, January 22, and it will present to the public "the challenges,
opportunities and experiences
" that anyone who signs up for a boat trip, in the words of Javier Sánchez-Prieto, president of the Fitur Organizing Committee. The new space is born in collaboration with the specialized portal, Cruceroadicto.com. The joint objective is "to publicize why cruises are one of the
fastest growing
vacation options ," adds Sánchez-Prieto.
Deck of one of the cruise ships.
To do this, there will be different events oriented towards experience, in which shipping companies, travel agencies, destinations and suppliers will participate.
As an example, there will be
team games
in which the participants will simulate being on a scale while passing tests thanks to the tracks distributed by the different Fitur pavilions.
The award?
A
cruise for two people
(what else?) or excursion vouchers.
The day will conclude with the replica of a
white party,
the most popular party of any journey in which you have to dress in white yes or yes and where the music of a DJ will not be missing.
