The headquarters of the Federation of Tanners' Groups is in the Ridina district of Moussoro, the capital of the Barh el Gazel province in Chad.

In this area, livestock and livestock trades play an important role in the family economy.

The raw material, that is to say the hides and skins, is not lacking.

As for tanning, it is an ancestral activity.

Moussoro is at the junction of the Sahel and the desert.

It is not without effect.

Because here precariousness is reinforced by climate change and food insecurity.

Obviously, we are more deprived in the village than in the city.

And even in urban areas, the worst off are women.

It is necessary to add the sociological constraints which make that a woman needs the agreement of her husband and the consent of her brothers to undertake a profitable activity.

An abundant raw material, an ancestral know-how, with these two assets, we say to ourselves that things should be done without too much difficulty.

Only, each woman is isolated and uses craftsmanship and rudimentary tools.

Result: a lot of work for a low return.

It required funding from the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production, through the Regional Support Project for Pastoralism in the Sahel (PRAPS) and the technical supervision of the local branch of the Liaison and Information Unit. Women's Associations (CELIAF), to organize these women into associations, then into unions, groups, and finally into a federation.
