Recently, the reporter walked into the Yizhan Village in Xingguang Village, Xinghua Township, Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province, and came into sight of a patchwork of residential buildings. The Drum Tower and Huaqiao in the village were particularly conspicuous.

According to the villagers, the two buildings were built by Wei Xingde, a seventy-year-old man in the village.

The 75-year-old Wei Xingde is a well-known carpenter and mason in the village. Because of his superb skills, since his youth, Wei Xingde has been often invited by his neighbors to help build houses and drum towers.

During the period, he saw that other villages had drum towers. Since 2012, the enthusiastic Wei Xingde spent three years designing and building a drum tower for the village with his own wood.

In recognition of Wei Xingde's kind deeds, the village named the drum tower "Xingde Pavilion" and erected a monument of merit.

In recent years, with the development of transportation, Xingguang Village has built a road leading to the village. However, because there is no waiting area in the village, it is very inconvenient for the villagers to rest and shelter from the rain. Seeing this situation, Wei Xingde came up with the idea of building a wind and rain bridge for the village. He paid out of his own pocket and spent more than two years building a wind and rain bridge. Since then, the villagers have had a place for waiting and leisure gatherings.

Wei Xingde's charitable deeds for building his hometown regardless of remuneration and labor have won praise and respect from neighbors near and far.
