• For more than 30 years and the integration of the cultivation of perfume flowers in Pégomas, the Alpes-Maritimes have been part of Chanel's "cradle of commitments".

  • The Research part of the brand in partnership with the local association Biophyto has been working since 2011 on medicinal wild flower species.

  • This is how the Solidage wild flower, the extracts of which are found in Sublimage products, was found and then exploited to enable its preservation.

  • Other projects are in progress, in particular the creation of a garden-conservatory which will present plants selected by Chanel, floral and edible plants.

To have skin that "gains density and radiance", Sublimage de Chanel products offer a formula with Solidage extract.

"A wild plant reacclimatized by Chanel Research in an open-air laboratory south of the French Alps", writes the brand on its site where the 40 ml cream is sold for 405 euros.

This “open-air laboratory” is located more precisely in the Tinée valley, in the Mercantour mountains (Alpes-Maritimes), “which include 70% of French flora”.

Since 2014, the brand has been collaborating with Déborah Courron, a farmer in Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey, above Grasse, who has become the pioneer in the cultivation of Solidage and Anthyllis, these wild medicinal plants with cosmetic virtues. used by the brand.

They are part of the fifty species on which the local association Biophyto, which works with the University of Nice and the chemistry laboratory of bioactive molecules of the Faculty of Science, and Chanel research have been working since 2011.

A garden to preserve and transmit

"The Alpes-Maritimes has been the cradle of our commitments to our integrated sectors for more than 30 years now", details the perfume house.

It is in this line that other projects flourish and that the brand wanted to "get involved in the creation of a unique place: the conservatory of Isola".

The goal of this project is to have "a place with around forty varieties of chestnut trees and around fifty wild plants to allow the preservation of these species", explains Jean-Paul Blanc, who, with his association AFA (Agricultural Land Agency of the chestnut grove), imagined this garden for several years.

“It was born out of Chanel's desire to raise public awareness through an educational garden.

We only protect well what we do not know well!

“says Jean-Paul Gherardi, the president of Biophyto, which aims to promote and preserve wild and medicinal plants and which has put the protagonists in contact.

The brand then also invested in a 2 hectare site to create the “conservatory of chestnut trees” which come from the region and from Italy.

"It's not just skiing in Isola"

Why chestnut? Because, “it is part of the history and heritage of the Tinée valley. Isola is the town of reference in this culture for the department”, specifies the president of the AFA. Thus, in the future garden of 8,000 m2, visits will be planned for schools but also for tourists. “This place could also become an interesting tool for mountain guides. The idea is to make known what people have next to them, especially when it comes to this richness linked to the alpine flora”.

Chanel then began to “really enter the landscape of the village”, as Jean-Paul Gherardi puts it. Mylène Agnelli, mayor of the town, is proud to present “this natural sanctuary” in the heart of Isola. “It's also a way of promoting our rare heritage. In this way, we also show that there is more than skiing in Isola,” she says. She adds: “In a fairly discreet way, Chanel has been helping to preserve maralpine biodiversity for several years, as we have seen with the operation of Solidage, allowing them to create their products without harming the nature reserve. And now, with the financing of part of the garden project. The commitments will then really take on their full extent at the time of the opening. »

The garden-conservatory project, which was developed in 2019, "formalized in 2020 will not see the light of day until 2023", says Jean-Paul Blanc.

The initial inauguration was planned for the spring.
