Alec Baldwin hands over his phone to investigators into 'Rust' director's murder

Hollywood star Alec Baldwin handed his mobile phone to investigators into the deadly shooting during the filming of the movie "Rust" in New Mexico in October, his attorney and a law enforcement official said Friday.

Investigative authorities issued a search warrant for Baldwin's iPhone in December.

Last week, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office, New Mexico, said it was still trying to obtain the device from the "30 Rock" star.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Department said via email that authorities in Savk County, New York, are downloading relevant data to send to detectives in Santa Fe after receiving Baldwin's phone.

Baldwin's attorney, Aaron Dyer, confirmed that the actor handed over his phone to authorities on Friday.

Baldwin was rehearsing a scene on the set of "Rust" when a bullet fired from his pistol, killing the film's director of filming, cinematographer Helena Hutchins.

The actor said he didn't pull the trigger and was sad about the accident.
