On January 11, an F-16V single-seat fighter jet of the Chiayi Wing of the Taiwan Air Force was conducting ground attack training in the airspace around the Shuixi Shooting Range.

Some fishermen around said that they had witnessed a fighter jet crashing into the sea on the west side of the north embankment of the Aogu Wetland.

So far, the fighter plane and pilot are still missing, and search and rescue work is underway.

This is the first accident since the Taiwanese F-16V fighter was converted into service.

According to reports, the Taiwan Air Force, codenamed "Fengzhan Project", plans to spend NT$110 billion to cooperate with American companies to upgrade the original 141 F-16A/B to the F-16V version.

At the end of last year, the first batch of about 60 modified F-16Vs entered service at the Chiayi base.
