A businessman was caught hiding millions in a water tank... and the police confiscated them with 3 kilos of gold (video)

The Indian Income Tax Department raided the home and property of liquor-selling businessman Shankar Rai and his family last Friday, confiscating Rs 80 million in cash and 3 kilos of gold.

Interestingly, the banknotes were found hidden in a bag kept in an underground water tank.

A video clip appeared on social media showing tax officials drying money with the help of an iron and a hair dryer.

After the operation ended, Income Tax Department Commissioner Monmon Sharma said, “The raid has ended and investigation will continue based on the documents seized from Ray's family. The department will now investigate the seized documents and unregistered property. So, we have to wait for the final figure.”

The raid, which began at 6 am on Thursday, continued for 39 hours.

Tax officials raided more than ten places belonging to Shankar Rai family.

Businessman Shankar Rai is the leader of the Congress party and a former mayor, while his brother Kamal Rai is the leader of the BJP and was the deputy mayor.

“Besides liquor trading, the Rai family also has a money lending business besides transportation, hotels, bars and a gas station,” said Monumum Sharma.
