The President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, ordered to find a way to extinguish what is known as the "Gate of Hell", a large crater that has been constantly burning for nearly half a century in the Karakum Desert as a result of a liquefied gas leak.

During a government meeting, the President of Turkmenistan ordered Deputy Prime Minister Shachim Abrahmanov, who is in charge of the oil and gas complex, to work to extinguish the flames burning in this hole.

"This situation has a bad impact on the environment and the health of people living nearby," Berdymukhamedov noted.

This hole is known as the "Gate of Hell" and it is a depression with a diameter of about 60 meters and a depth of 20 meters, where fires rise.

This burning hole appeared in 1971, when a well was drilled in this place in search of natural gas and a landslide occurred, so geologists decided to set fire to the gas emerging from the hole, hoping that it would burn within a few days and thus prevent its leakage.
