The anti-vaccine pass event organized on Saturday in Montpellier, as in the rest of France, experienced a very strong resurgence after the words of Emmanuel Macron during the week.

The President of the Republic explained that he wanted to "piss off the unvaccinated".

Between 3,700 people, according to the prefecture, to 6,000 people according to other sources, marched in town to the sound of "Macron on you pissed off".

As often in the prefecture of Hérault, the demonstration ended in confusion and was the subject of clashes with the police.

At the head of the procession, several young hooded men paraded, followed by a few dozen yellow vests.

Attempted intrusion into the prefecture

A small group degraded the front door of Saint-Roch station, in the city center.

The station must have been closed for a few minutes.

A little later, the demonstrators, according to the police, tried to climb over the gates of the prefecture.

Tear gas was thrown by the police several times in the afternoon, in the streets crowded with passers-by.

At the end of the afternoon, the gendarmes tried to evacuate the Place de la Préfecture, forcibly pushing the demonstrators down one of the stairs in this place, creating a crowd movement.

In the early evening, demonstrators threw chairs from a bar terrace, or even flower pots from a downtown shop, in a suffocating atmosphere from tear gas.
